The Benefits Of Fibreglass Pools

If you've been researching swimming pools, you've probably noticed that fibreglass pools are really popular... and there's a good reason for that! Fibreglass pools have become an incredibly popular choice for Australian backyards, offering a combination of durability, beautiful finishes and a huge variety of designs. From compact plunge pools through to large family pools, today's fibreglass options are a long way from a one-size-fits-all solution. At GV Unique Pools & Landscaping, we install fibreglass pools across Shepparton, the Goulburn Valley and surrounding areas, with options to suit everything from smaller residential backyards to large rural and lifestyle properties.

So, what exactly makes fibreglass such a popular choice?

A Huge Range of Shapes and Sizes

One of the biggest advantages of choosing fibreglass is the variety available.

Our fibreglass pool range extends from compact 2.90 metre pools all the way through to impressive 12.15 metre designs, with plenty of different lengths, widths and shapes in between. That means a smaller backyard doesn't necessarily mean missing out on a pool. A plunge pool can create an incredible feature without taking over the entire outdoor area, while larger properties can accommodate generous family pools with plenty of room for swimming, playing and entertaining. Many designs also incorporate features such as steps, splash decks, seating and spa areas directly into the pool shell, giving you different ways to enjoy the water without needing to customise the basic structure from scratch.

Beautiful Colours and Finishes

Your pool doesn't have to be blue... although it certainly can be!

Modern fibreglass pools are available in a beautiful selection of finishes that can produce very different water colours once the pool is filled. Depending on the shell colour, depth of the water, sunlight and surrounding environment, you can achieve anything from bright and vibrant water through to deeper, moodier or more natural tones. This allows the pool to become part of the overall design of your property. Your home's exterior, concrete or paving and landscaping can all be considered when selecting a colour. And as we've covered in our pool colour guide, it's worth remembering that the small colour sample isn't necessarily what you'll perceive when you're looking at thousands of litres of water reflecting the sky and its surroundings!

A Smooth, Comfortable Surface

One of the most noticeable characteristics of a fibreglass pool is its smooth interior finish. The surface is comfortable underfoot and pleasant to touch, which is particularly nice when you're sitting on steps or benches, walking through shallow areas or when the kids are spending hours playing in the water. The smooth surface is also one of the practical advantages of fibreglass when it comes to looking after the pool.

Easier Ongoing Maintenance

No swimming pool is completely maintenance-free, but fibreglass is well suited to homeowners who want to keep ongoing care manageable. Its smooth, non-porous surface makes it more difficult for algae to grow, compared with more porous pool surfaces, but of course correct water chemistry, filtration and regular cleaning are still essential. Combine the pool with the right cleaning system and maintaining your pool can become much more straightforward! Of course, your surroundings matter too. A pool beside established trees will experience different debris to one surrounded by lawn, while a rural pool beside paddocks, gravel or exposed soil may naturally collect more dust. The pool itself is only one part of creating a lower-maintenance setup.

Manufactured Before It Arrives at Your Home

Unlike a pool structure that's created entirely onsite, a fibreglass pool shell is manufactured before it arrives to your property. Once the site has been prepared and excavated, the completed shell is transported to the property and carefully lifted into position. For clients, this means much of the pool itself already exists before excavation begins. There is still significant work involved in properly installing the pool, including excavation, levelling, plumbing, backfilling, water filling, equipment installation and surrounds, but the shell isn't being constructed from scratch in your backyard.

Installation Can Be Relatively Quick

One of the major attractions of fibreglass is the installation process. Because the pool shell arrives already manufactured, the pool can be installed much faster than a concrete pool that needs to be constructed and finished onsite. That doesn't mean every project follows exactly the same timeframe. Site conditions, weather, access, pool surrounds, landscaping and the overall scope of the project can all influence how long it takes to reach the finished result. A complete backyard transformation involving extensive concreting and landscaping will naturally be a different project to a straightforward pool installation.

Built for Long-Term Enjoyment

A swimming pool is a significant investment, so of course you want something designed to be enjoyed for many years. Quality fibreglass pools are engineered as complete shells with multiple layers forming the finished structure. When manufactured and installed correctly, fibreglass provides a strong and durable pool structure suited to long-term residential use. Our Leisure Pools fibreglass shells are backed by a lifetime structural warranty, giving you added confidence in your investment.

More Than Just a Pool

Choosing fibreglass doesn't mean your backyard needs to look like everybody else's.

The pool may begin as a manufactured shell, but everything you create around it gives you the opportunity to make the finished space your own. At GV Unique Pools & Landscaping, we can incorporate features such as custom sun pods, spa jets and custom water features, along with separate fibreglass spas and spillovers to add another dimension to the pool area. Then there are the surrounds themselves. Your choice of coping, concrete, paving, landscaping, planting and lighting can completely change the character of the finished project. Two properties can start with the same pool model and end up looking completely different!

The Pool Is Just the Beginning

Ultimately, one of the greatest advantages of fibreglass is the combination of choice, durability, comfort, easier maintenance and design flexibility it offers. But choosing the shell is only the beginning of creating a great outdoor space. Our team can help with the entire project... from selecting the right pool, colour and equipment through to installation, concrete, surrounds and complete landscaping.

With fibreglass pools ranging from 2.90 metres to 12.15 metres, plus separate spas, spillovers and plenty of ways to customise the surrounding space, there's an option for almost every kind of backyard and lifestyle!
